Michael Jackson’s This Is It Movie Review

The first thing I saw this morning was this photo of a mini Michael Jackson impersonator. I thought it was such a great photo. This pose should be trademarked. It can only be Michael Jackson.

Well today was an interesting day. Doors opened for me and to top it off, I watched Michael Jackson’s THIS IS IT.

I have to say that he is truly iconic, a musical genius and a fantastic entertainer. He embodies music and it permeates from his skin. He is music. His moves are irreplaceable, his flair and flamboyance will never be matched and his voice is incomparable.

Some highlights for me:- Smooth Criminal, Beat It, Billie Jean and I’ll Be There

I always thought when Mariah Carey covered Jackson 5’s I’ll Be There and ‘made it her own’, I really thought she had nailed it. What I realise tonight is that Mariah did nothing with and for the song. Sure she layered the song with timbre and her octave defying voice but when I heard Michael Jackson sing I’ll Be There in This Is It, it was ethereal. Michael’s soulful voice brought out the intensity and meaning of the lyrics to a whole new level. The acoustic yet very fresh and current touch really brought out Michael’s inner voice. It was heavenly to say the least.

When the introduction strains of Billie Jean were played, I let out an orgasmic sigh because it really melted my heart.

There were times when your head unconsciously bop to Michael’s music and his dancing is so different from his back-up dancers. They did the same moves but somehow, they were never quite as light as he was on his feet. He had an agility and he could make any part of his body dance, from his fingers to his torso. It was captivating to see his flexible body move in time to the rhythm. It was sexy.

There were glimpses of the back-up dancers and singers, stage hands and crew with their mouths open, spellbound and inspired by Michael Jackson. You could tell they were true fans of the art he created and represented. If I had been at rehearsals, I am sure I would have been the same.

Premiere Michael Jacksons This Is It LA

You could tell a lot of love was put into editing and making sure THIS IS IT the movie was an experience for the fans. It really was well done and hats off to Kenny Ortega and the crew for such an amazing show.

The audio mastering they did was impressive. I enjoyed the music very much. It was like they had recreated the old. It was old yet new. It was familiar yet refreshing. I suppose that is what makes live concerts so appealing.

The props were fantastic – they thought of everything from aerial artists to 3D to animation to make up & costume to pyrotechnics, Michael Jackson’s THIS IS IT would have been quite a show. And I realised too that only Michael Jackson can carry glittery jackets and pants without making them look tacky.

It was obvious though that Michael Jackson was too thin. He was really fragile and delicate looking compared to the other people on stage with him. I noticed he was wearing thermal underwear at times and then some times wearing a full on autumn jacket and layers. That made me kind of sad and you really couldn’t ignore the fact that he seemed grossly underweight. There were times when he would curve his body in a dance move and you would see the ridges of his ribs through his shirt. That made me sad.

Anyway, I hope the spirit of Michael Jackson lives on. The spirit to love and heal the world and to change the man in the mirror.

Premiere 17 Again LA

Loving the dramatic eyes and make-up! When I first spotted these pictures, I literally fell out of my seat. Vanessa Hudgens is looking hot!

Are neutral skin toned colours in this season?

By the way, Vanessa Hudgens is also on the cover of Self Magazine where she reveals 25 things we don’t know about her. I’d love to read that!

Jeremy Irons in Delectable

jeremy-irons

He looks a bit like a vampire here, don’t you think? My version of Carlisle Cullen, I suppose. Maybe Jeremy Irons could play Aro at the movies!

I spent my entire Saturday holed up at home, reading Breaking Dawn , and I have to admit that Breaking Dawn has to be the 2nd best book out of The Twilight Saga Collection so far. The best is clearly Twilight , the first book.

Anyway, good taste runs in my family as my sibling finds Jeremy Irons good looking too. Not that I brainwashed her in anyway. She first spotted him in Eragon . She was explaining to me how she found this old white guy, with white hair and beard handsome. I thought she was mad to like a Santa Claus kind of man.

I found out later it was Jeremy Irons when we watched Elizabeth I together. Good taste, no? I liked him from way back in the day. There’s just something about him, something sexy… and it’s not like I find a lot of men attractive.

Anyway, that photo of Jeremy Irons is the latest it seems – taken on March 15, 2009 at the 125th Anniversary gala of the Metropolitan Opera in New York.

American Idol Top 13 Official Studio Shots

Something for you and me to water our mouths to, here are the official photos for the Top 13 of American Idol. Do you think they’ll do a photoshoot every week?

As much as I would like to live blog, I live in a far away land so that’s virtually impossible. I will keep my recap short and sweet though – Adam Lambert made Black or White sound REALLY good. I was flabbergasted by his performance. Danny Gokey has a really cheerful face. It’s open, happy… I like him very much. His singing is also really good. Megan Joy was kinda quirky in a good way with Rockin’ Robin. She’s really pretty – especially in her high school photos!! I liked the visually impaired Scott MacIntyre even if his some times googly eyes kind of freak me out but then I think of Andrea Bocelli and then all’s good… Anoop and Jorge have got to get out. Fast. Not that I’m discriminatory in any way… I just found their performances really bad. And Anoop probably got in ‘cos of the whole Slumdog Millionaire hype. The rest were all good but forgettable… Kris wasn’t forgettable. He reminded me of Jesse McCartney and of the Beatles with his guitar and the way he moved. Eww to the one channeling Justin Timberlake. It’s my first time watching all of them by the way. I saved myself for the Top 13. :)

Kate Winslet Wins 2 at 66th Golden Globes

Last night, they were showing Titanic on television and my cousins and I huddled around the tv set and watched it from beginning to end.

It’s really an epic tragedy. I couldn’t contain myself in the last hour of the film. Probably when the quartet on-board started playing “Nearer My God to Thee”.

The score is just superb – Titanic: Music from the Motion Picture (1997) – It really is. It carried the film so well at the end. Without it, I’m sure the impact wouldn’t have been as great.

I was in love with Kate Winslet’s bright red hair in Titanic.

So was I thrilled this morning to see that Kate Winslet won not 1 but 2 GGs (Golden Globes) for Best Supporting Actress (The Reader) and Best Actress (Revolutionary Road) !!

She brought old school glam back into business at the 66th Golden Globes with her Yves Saint Laurent strapless black classy gown that accentuated her skin tone and hair colour of the day. It was simple but stunningly elegant.

All in all, a great return for the Golden Globes!

And I actually liked Drew Barrymore’s hair… and I too thought Amy Adams looked a stunner with her Oscar de la Renta . I have a thing for redheads.

Congratulations to all the winners!
